About this item

Princess Kitty: A Sweet and Silly Picture Book About a Party and Learning to Share for Kids (Ages 4-8)

Princess Kitty is in for a royal treat! Her palace attendants are throwing a surprise party in her honor. At least, that’s what she thinks! There will be games, presents, cake, and more. But when the guests start arriving, no one is paying attention to the kitty of honor! What’s a princess to do? From award-winning children’s book author Steve Metzger, and accompanied by colorful, vibrant illustrations by Ella Okstad, comes Princess Kitty, a sweet and silly story about a kitty who learns to share the spotlight. Perfect for fans of They All Saw a Cat and Bad Kitty ! PreS-Gr 2— Princess Kitty believes she lives in a "palace" being scrupulously waited upon by her "attendants": the mother, father, young girl, and baby with whom she lives. When she jumps off of a shelf, being careful to keep her tail straight, she states that she is practicing ballet, and when she and the family dog share noodles from Chinese take-out, Princess Kitty comments that she is eating "delicacies from faraway lands." There is plenty of tongue-in-cheek humor, as when she licks her lips when gazing up at some birds in a tree outside (and states that she loves her feathered "friends"); the sweet pastel drawings nicely highlight the humor in these situations. The story concludes with the family having a birthday party for the six-year-old girl—of course Princess Kitty behaves as if the party is for her, trampling through the activities of the young guests and trying to open the pile of presents. The story ends a bit abruptly, with Princess Kitty stating that celebrating with friends is the best gift of all. VERDICT Young cat lovers will enjoy the story and will smile with recognition at Princess Kitty's absurdities. An additional purchase.— Sally James, South Hillsborough Elementary School, Hillsborough, CA “Cat lovers will recognize Princess Kitty’s sense of royal entitlement and find her charms irresistible, and at least a few will argue it’s high time their kitties get birthday parties of their own.” - Bulletin of the Center for Children’s Books “Young cat lovers will enjoy the story and will smile with recognition at Princess Kitty’s absurdities.” - School Library Journal Princess Kitty is in for a royal treat!  Her palace attendants are throwing a surprise party in her honor.
