Beginning with Charlie Merrill and his partner, Edmund Lynch, who began their partnership in 1914 to introduce the stock market to retail America, the author cites letters and historical accounts to supplement personal recollections of the following years, how the markets rose and fell, the positive influences along with the greed and disasters, telling stories of "good guys" and those not so good in the tumultuous decades after the Merrill Lynch partnership began.
