Jordan was a boy in elementary school who couldn’t speak yet, so he was trapped inside his brain in Jordan’s World. Jordan has Verbal Apraxia, also known as Childhood Apraxia of Speech, a neurological speech disorder. He knows what he wants to say, but his words don’t always come out. Jordan goes through elementary school not knowing why kids ask him all sorts of questions. He goes to his mom, and his mom is his comforter. The way Jordan is being treated can’t be ignored. So, his mom takes action with the school. Jordan’s mom teaches him and others that being different is okay. Jordan later comes to a point in his life of self-love and radical self-acceptance. He acknowledges being different isn’t a bad thing. After all, we are all made in our own original way. Jordan’s journey has just begun. "Jordan is different from other kids...he is a boy with a speech disorder called Apraxia of Speech. As we all know, being different is not easy. Being different leads to bullying, name calling, and social exclusion. In this poignantly written story based on the author's real-life experiences, apraxia makes day to day interactions difficult for Jordan. But his struggles help him develop persistence, resiliency, grit, and self-acceptance. This story is a must-read for all children who are fighting for their voice. It is also a must-read for all children who speak without difficulty. Understanding the plight of others, acknowledging that being different is part of the human experience...that is how empathy is realized and practiced. Two thumbs up for this captivating story about a boy named Jordan, with a smile and a personality that cannot be matched." - Cari Ebert, MS, CCC-SLP and apraxia specialist "The Boy Who Couldn't Speak, Yet is a touching, raw, and honest story of a little boy growing up with a severe speech disorder called apraxia and his experiences as an elementary school child. Jordan beautifully weaves his honest emotions and experiences with endless hope in a story that is sure to touch the hearts of the reader. The ending has a special surprise for a child who struggles with the same condition. I highly recommend this book for children and adults alike." - Laura Kay Smith, MA CCC-SLP Jordan's World was full of love, acceptance, and inclusion. However, Jordan would soon find out the outside world didn't match his inside world. Jordan's World is a non-fictional children's book series.
