Welcome to Maudlin, West Carolina. A massive, hundred-foot wall surrounds the city. No one can enter, no one can leave. Those trapped inside live under never-ending surveillance. Many mysteries and unexplained phenomena are woven through the streets above and tunnels below. Somewhere in this chaos, just west of Ender Forest, there’s an orphanage. They call it The Amulet. This is where we find Elliott Avenue. He wakes up there thirty-seven days after the disappearance of his family. His new life includes a loving but mentally unstable foster mother, a group of boys who claim they fell from the sky, and a mysterious shadow figure with a sinister motive. Over the next twelve years, Elliott receives birthday gifts from his foster mother in the form of bizarre stories about Maudlin’s past. These stories pull back the curtain on an ominous secret that sleeps beneath their city. He wants to tell you everything. Will you listen? Thomas Smak is a UX writer living in the Metro Detroit area. While sitting by himself at a diner in January 2004, he pulled out his journal and started brainstorming ideas for what would eventually become The Myths of Maudlin series. 17 years later, he finished his first novel, Where the Sky Children Fell.Along with writing fiction, he enjoys Peanuts comics, synthesizers, video games, Settlers of Catan, making friends with bees, studying existential dread, a damn fine cup of coffee, and homesteading with his wife.
