An ancient evil lurks in the dark heart of Transylvania - but it won't lurk there forever. Now Count Dracula's immortal eyes look towards London, a new land full of opportunity and unsuspecting victims. A ragged band of survivors must stop him before it is too late... but how? Manga Classics® proudly presents a beautiful, faithful recreation of Bram Stoker's famous vampire story Dracula. "This book combined direct wording from Stoker's original with illustrations that make for a concise, faithful, and visually appealing end product." ― Youth Services Book Review "...the pace of the action will keep readers engaged to the end." ― Kirkus "The horror of the original novel is more intense with Nitohei's beautiful drawings. King's adaptation of classics into manga is one of the best of this series." " ― Oregon Coast Youth Book Preview Center YOUTH SERVICES BOOK REVIEW -- The story of Dracula has been tackled by the wondrous team of Manga Classics, adapting this centuries-old and still-beloved tale of Transylvania for a new audience. Just as with their other adaptations, this book combines direct wording from Stoker’s original with black and white illustrations that make for a concise, faithful, and visually appealing end product. Nitouhel’s illustrations are eye-catching and make excellent use of line and shadow in particular. These elements play well with scenes of action and dark transformations or realizations, respectively, and set a foreboding and intriguing mood that suits the story and text selected by King. As the book was originally an epistolary novel and comprised of diary entries, newspaper articles, etc. different fonts were used for varying characters’ writing and other forms of communication. Dramatic scenes, such as the first arrival of Count Dracula or the voyage of the Demeter, are made all the more compelling with the added visuals alongside a character’s unique “handwriting.” Several pages of back matter explore the original story and explain the process of adaptation. All books in the Manga Classics series thus far have ranged from “okay” to “great” and this one lands on the upper end of the scale into nearly “stunning.” "...the pace of the action will keep readers engaged to the end." - Kirkus "The story of Dracula has been tackled by the wondrous team of Manga Classics, adapting this centuries-old and still-beloved tale of Transylvania for a new audience.
