I felt compelled to write this book for a simple reason. I have always felt refuted if not rejected any time I introduced my Nationality. From a young age in my country of birth, Haiti, I had to prove to people that I was Haitian. I used to be called “Ti Blanc” which means “Little White” or “The Outsider”. Today, as an American citizen, the situation has gotten worse. The Haitian community in the United States does not believe me when I tell them that I am Haitian. The American community does not believe me when I tell them I am American, because of my English accent. So what am I?
