The gray foam on the bottom of the filter is packing material. Please remove before use. The SAFM Air Filter is a Coalescing Filter with a 0.1 Micron fiber element. A coalescing filter functions differently from a standard particulate filter: air flows to the inside of the element then outward through a coalescing media. SAFM Coalescing filters are used for high filtration of oil aerosols and sub-micron particles. They are often used with critical instrumentation; Paint Spraying equipment; highly sophisticated air systems; blow molding processes; applications in food industry; and Clean Room environments. This Coalescing Filter offers general industrial filtration with low pressure drop and long element life. It is often used with older compressor models where downstream oil carryover is excessive and longer element life and low pressure drop are a concern. For maximum performance and efficiency, coalescing filters should be preceded by our Particulate filters. *** We recommend using an SAF Series Filter (B00CTEOC7C) as a preliminary filter ahead of this unit to prevent premature clogging.
