Robert J (Bob) Widlar (Nov 30, 1937 - Feb 27, 1991) is considered the father of the analog monolithic integrated circuit, otherwise known as linear ICs ... tiny silicon chips that process continuously-variable real-world signals, like temperature, sound, pressure, and speed. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he eventually graduated from the University of Colorado in 1962 with a BSEE degree, after serving four years in the U.S. Air Force as an instructor at Lowery Air Force Base and producing this course material as part of his assigned duties.This edited transcription of that material is published to honor this uniquely creative engineer, who was considered both a genius and an unpredictable maverick, and who was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in 2009.
