This book is created to help users of various 3D CAM software and CNC machines to develop programs for CNC machines. Major topics are programming of CNC machines using standard G and M code command. Each command is explained in detail and presented with detailed subsequent images for each small step that helps reduce possible misinterpretations. An effort was made to explain commands, programming sequences, and requirements while keeping the description to the minimum. In my experience teaching, CAM CNC machining was the most challenging part of any Computer Aided Manufacturing, Computer Integrated Manufacturing process and CNC programming laboratory we created for any single command when more than one CAM software system or CNC machine were used. This tutorial was originally written for students in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences to help them with a group of courses: Introduction to Machine processes - EDMM 2540, Metrology-EDMM 3540, Computer Aided Manufacturing -EDMM 3580, Manufacturing System Integration – EDMM 4580, Concurrent Engineering -EDMM 5460, and Computer Aided Manufacturing Applications - EDMM 6580.EDMM 4580, EDMM 6580, and EDMM 5460 are advanced courses taken by senior undergraduate and graduate students and require extensive CAD /CAM manufacturing competence. EDMM 2540, EDMM 3540, and EDMM 3580 are attended by students with a broad range of CAD/CAM experience, some with extensive, others with only the introductory programming experience and computer skills. This tutorial is easy to follow even for a user with limited CNC programming experience while at the same time providing support to advanced users.Detailed descriptions of all the possible program situations with different CNC machines within a single book volume is impossible. For any additional information, users can refer to operation and programming CNC manuals, CAM software manuals, help files, and on-line help from CAM vendors. Also, notice that different versions and license schema by CNC or CAM companies may show different results from the one explained in this tutorial. The chapters in this book are not meant to be followed sequentially, so please use the chapter you need for a specific command and programming method. This book is not a reference guide and is intended to give sufficient (but not complete) descriptions of manual and CAM-based CNC programming. All of the examples shown in this book were individually created. Any similarity of objects, parts, and drawings used in this tutorial are coincidental and unintentional. All files created for this tutorial will be available as a free download on a Website specified by the author.Access to the site with all the free files from the tutorial needs to be requested from the author. Due to the file sizes, the E-mailing of the program files is not practical.
