The Death of Jacob Marley is a murder mystery play, in 4 parts, based on characters from Charles Dickens’s 1843 Classic “A Christmas Carol” in a modern setting.Jacob Marley and Ebenezer Scrooge are invited to the Annual London Stock Exchange Christmas Party.As seat holders on the Exchange (canonically accurate), they attend, begrudgingly, every year.This year, Marley has been named chairperson of the Exchange, in recognition of his long career and success.But after his installation as chairperson, Marley is discovered dead under mysterious circumstances.An inspector is called in and charged with the unenviable task of finding the murderer among a cast of eccentric elites who all have motive and means.The inspector must keep the murder under wraps while keeping the guests from leaving and trying to deduce who the actual murderer is.Ebenezer is the prime suspect, as he has the most to gain, but did he do it?Marley’s ghost haunts the proceeding, providing snarky commentary and narration.The original setting for this play was coupled with a three-course dinner and live music.With breaks for eating and accompanying live music, the entire event should take two (2) hours.The play as a standalone should run for one (1) hour.
