Gloaming is a beautiful, antiquated word for twilight, which is what this book is about. There are many different kinds of twilights, from literal to spiritual to metaphorical to cultural. One thing that they all usually share, however, is their pattern. First, there is the loss of light and decent into darkness and shadow, followed by the purple of evening and the dark grey of the horizon. It is here that something starts to happen. Two or three pricks of light show up, usually belonging to the planets and the moon. Then, there is the bright explosion of starlight and the eternal stories of the constellations. This book is about both sides of the gloaming, the shadows and the starlight. It is about falling. It is about beauty and all the good, enduring things of our God's creation, and, ultimately, it is about hope.
