This kind of capacitor utilizes hermetically-sealed construction. When the inner core is broken down during the usage of capacitor,polypropylene film (BOPP). the main material of core,is decomposed in the high temperature resulted from the breakdown, causing a lot of gas which cannot be released.
The gas in the capacitor increases the inner pressure, which deforms the cover of capacitor and makes it bulge outward.As the rivet connects terminals,insulated bowl,sealing ring and capacitor cover as the assembly.other parts of this assembly move above with the capacitor cover.
Copper foil sticks to the explosion-proof block which is fixed in the capacitor. When the capacitor cover moves above,copper foil cannot move and is pulled off if the capacitor inner pressure meets a certain level. In this way, the core of the capacitor disconnects with the outside power supply and breakdown of core is terminated.so as to activate protection.
