It’s the autumn of 2022 in Adamsville, an idyllic suburb in upstate New York. The pandemic has receded and the town has gotten back to what it used to be before chaos hit: the place with great schools that new parents would move their families to, the place with walkable sidewalks and streets, the place where community members were engaged, active, and friendly. But for Jon Bennet, running the town in the role of Town Supervisor, problems emerge that threaten his reputation before a giant election. Navigating other obstacles is his son Aidan, a faultlessly ambitious teenager whose dip into moral dilemmas puts him in a very shaky place. Away from the family, Nicole Williams - a liberal English professor trying to escape the shadow of her celebrity father - tries to carve out a small political difference, while Elena Morales, a girl navigating a crazy start to her senior year while trying to hide chronic anxiety with a facade of social strength, finds herself closer to the action and controversy than she wants to be. Henry A. Reichman’s second book and first novel: Motion Sickness, tells the story of what happens underneath a perfect community, how individuals misjudge privilege, happiness, and risk, and above all, the unravelings humans experience when confronted with uncertain adversity.
