A thin, short, rectangular fiber cut from unidirectional carbon fiber commonly combined with resin to add strength and stiffness to parts. Use with difficult vacuum bagging applications to fill deep voids or sharp edges. Chopped Carbon exhibits high strength and modulus, excellent fatigue, low thermal expansion and electrical and thermal conductivity. Flake Type chopped fibers provide ready impregnation of thermoset resins, with the capability to mold complex shapes. The resultant carbon fiber/ resin matrix composites offer high strength-to-weight and stiffness-to-weight ratios. Flake Type chopped fibers may also be used as a low-cost alternative in thermoplastic applications, whereby a small portion of the matrix-specific product can be replaced with chopped flake carbon fibers with negligible impact to composite properties.
