Delidding involves removing the heat spreader to enable direct cooling of the CPU dies through the "Direct Die" method. In this method, the CPU cooler is mounted directly onto the CPU dies and the I/O die of the processor, bypassing the heat spreader. This allows for optimized heat transfer from the dies to the CPU cooler. The purpose of delidding and using the Direct Die method on Intel processors is to improve cooling performance.
