About this item

A Discourse on the Philosophers’ Stone (Alchemy translations)

This late 16th-century (1590) French manuscript by an unknown alchemical author, is in the Bibliotheque Nationale in France. The opening section contains an elaborate alchemical allegory, in which the subject of this discourse, falls asleep and has a complex dream filled with alchemical references. He is taken into vast room where he meets with nymphs, and is guided by a wise old man, encountering an emerald table with a crystal fountain. The latter part of the work takes the form of a more philosophical exploration of the nature of the Philosophers' Stone.
