The small radius point at the bottom corner of the scraper creates a smooth transition from a side wall to a flat bottom. All Scrapers and Detail Gouges offered by Robust Tools are manufactured in the United States using premium high speed steel (HSS). Each tool is treated with a proprietary Nitriding process which results in significantly improved edge-holding and reduced sharpening.

After machining the tools to shape, they are heat-treated 62-64 Rockwell C. The hardened tools then go through the Nitriding process, increasing surface hardness to 1880 Vickers (75+ Rockwell C). Because the treatment is diffused into the metal itself, it will not flake, peel or chip. The tools are just as easy to grind as regular HSS and sharpen well on conventional and CBN wheels.

To sharpen your Robust Scraper, just grind the bottom bevel. This leaves the Nitriding on the top surface, so the burr is Nitrided.
