In the aftermath of four years of America’s Civil War, the nation faced difficulties and struggles in reuniting after the nation’s bloodiest conflict. The Barker family’s home and property in Harpers Ferry, Virginia (West Virginia) had been destroyed by Union soldiers, leaving them impoverished, and the McBride family in Boston, Massachusetts, had prospered. Although weapons had been set aside after the surrender of the Confederate armies, reconciliation still became difficult for many citizens living in the North and South. As Pete Barker struggled financially to retain the family’s ownership of their home Shenandoah, he experienced many challenges and opposition to meet the task. After Pete travels to Boston looking for money with his fiancée, Katie McBride, they are greeted with opposition and challenges from her family. One thing leads to another between Pete and Katie, and they experience relational differences. Once Pete returns to Harpers Ferry, his help is sought by the McBride family because of their daughter’s sudden disappearance. Why Katie’s disappearance? Are there hidden secrets to her past that prompted her disappearance? Will Pete Barker find Katie McBride and discover the truth about her life?
