“Bounce: A Basketball Love Story” is basically a love letter to my youth all the way up to today. It’s divided up like a basketball game with pregame and postgame summaries bracketing two halves of my life- first as a child (17 poems), then as an adult (17 poems). The poems have a natural Appalachian flair to them, an ode to my heritage, and will be readily recognizable as real and authentic.In the first half, the reader will follow along with a gangly, willow tree of a boy who discovers the game of basketball and with it makes friends and develops confidence he didn’t know he had.In the second half, the reader continues the journey as that boy becomes a man and still today reaps the fruit of all his labors in the game.
