The Teachers' Lounge
THEN- Genesis High School was the first and only all-black school in the state. It was established in the spring of April 1887. Every black student within the city limits was only allowed to attend this school due to the racial segregation of the times. Blacks were proud of a school that would educate some of the brightest minds from their community. NOW- Breaking News: “A gang-related fight happened right outside the gates of Genesis High,” the reporter announced. “Sources say members of Lox Division and Cross Coast Crip gangs were involved. The school had just dismissed for the first day of class when the fight broke out.” Black: Nothing like a good ole’ fight to welcome you back to the new school year. Happy first day of school ladies!
