Season's Greetings: And Other Adventures

When John Schwarz wrote his first holiday letter in 2001, he and his wife Rhoda were empty nesters living in Wellesley, Massachusetts, where they had resided for 24 years. Both of their children were married and living in California. A perpetual goal of John and Rhoda’s in the early years of the letters was to re-locate to California to be closer to their children. This aspiration continued for several years with a few false starts. Eventually, their daughter and her husband moved to Austin, Texas, giving John and Rhoda a new decision to make—retiring to Texas or California. Fifteen years after the first holiday letter which discussed moving, they moved in 2016 from Wellesley to Austin, and bought a home close to their daughter. At the time of this writing, John and Rhoda still are in Austin. They remain active in the community, travel frequently and are making the most of retirement and life in their 80s and beyond.
