About this item

Drake's Inferno: City of Demons

The world has ended, and all that is left are remnants. Demons have overrun the city seeking out the few survivors. Will those still living find salvation, or damnation as they struggle against the evil within? Join Drake as he journeys through hell on earth! Neo Nozomu was a monument to human engineering and ingenuity. A multi-tiered metropolis rising out of the African jungle, it was supposed to be the blueprint to a perfect future. But when the Breaking occurred, that future was severed. With a quaking of the earth, and an eruption of eldritch mists, the city was abruptly cut-off from the rest of the world. Those who lived within were subject to unspeakable horrors as demons flooded into the city, destroying or corrupting all that had been built. It has been seven months since that horror occurred. Those who survived the initial catastrophe now struggle to survive, eking out an existence by hiding in the shadows and staying out of the way of the demons that now stalk the city. Drake is one such survivor. Having no intention besides surviving day to day, he finds himself suddenly thrust into a journey to the city’s center, where the root of all evil awaits him. Join him as he explores the desolate and dangerous city, encountering friend and foe both human and demonic. A unique blend of fantasy, cyberpunk, sci-fi, horror, action and adventure! First of all, if you've found yourself reading my book, thank you. I hope you will find it not only entertaining but thought provoking as well. I have always wanted to write a book, and had several ideas for more of a traditional fantasy style setting. However, when I started writing I would only get so far as nothing grabbed me enough to finish writing a book. When I was just starting to think of trying again, I had been doing a lot of soul searching and grappling with some deep seated questions I had regarding religion. While those questions were front of mind, I found myself suddenly unemployed, with plenty of time to dive in deep and write. At the same time, I was reading Dante's Inferno and researching the "Problem of Evil" which is a philosophical and religious subject regarding the nature of evil, or sin, in the world. It attempts to answer the issue of having a supposedly benevolent creator while at the same time having suffering present in the world. What is the purpose of suffering? Why would a benevolent creator allow such a thing to exist? Is the creator benevolent at all, or something beyond such confining defitions of good and evil? What is the point of life when suffering is present? These were the kinds of things I was grappling with and found as a fruitful source of inspiration to take pen to paper, so to speak. I was exploring the different areas of human nature, as well as "natural" evil, and these served as a springboard to outline what would become "Drake's Inferno: City of Demons." I decided what ideas to put in thematically, as well as philosophically, and began to draw those points into a story dressed up with the fantastical, the horrific, and a plot that would drive my protagonist, Drake, through a very real hell on earth scenario where he would see these evils brought to life and have to grapple with them in pursuit of his own goals - survival, duty, life. I drew upon my own experiences - a wealth of travel (one of the things I was most blessed to have plenty of experience in and which remains a favorite hobby of mine), of different cultural experiences, of real life experiences dealing with illness, both physical and mental through both family and friends, and then combined those experiences with ideas from some of my hobbies - books, movies/TV, and video games. All of this combined to generate something that kept me interested in writing my own book, something which I had outlined but with the ending unknown even to me until I completed the journey with my characters, and saw how they had developed and changed through the story. I've read this book more times than any other (editing is quite the laborious process, a special thanks to my editor who has also read this more times than any other work!) but I truly enjoyed reading it and what manifested in the end was something completely unique in my library. Not traditional fantasy but a blend of the fantastical, science fiction, horror, as well as a dash of anime & video-game-esque story-telling, all threaded with philosophical and religious tones. It's a unique brew, so to speak, but one that I hope you find both entertaining and thought-provoking.  I am sincerely grateful to anyone who reads my book as that is the whole purpose of writing - to share ideas and to be enjoyed. I hope that by joining Drake as he journeys through the heart of darkness, that his trials and tribulations cause you to pause and refle
