Digital inks are not able to compete not only because they are sprayed on extremely thin, but also, they are not specifically formulated for the decal material. That's why they have to have a clear overlaminate, because without it, the image will scratch off or be damaged by solvents. The decal is made with 1.5 mil (.0015") thick optically clear self-adhesive polyester. These decals are SOLVENT SCREEN PRINTED, which means they will last up to 4 times longer outdoors than digitally printed decals. The best way to tell if a product is digitally printed is if it has a "UV protection layer". That means the ink is so thin, and so likely to be scratched off or damaged by solvents, that they have to be protected with a clear overlaminate that only slows down the fading for a few months. The overlaminate turns brown eventually, but you'll have to replace them long before that because the ink will probably fade in 3 years.
