Profit Sharing in the Real World: How sharing profits can transform your business from good to great!

Dick Erickson grew up in North Dakota, studied Economics at North Dakota State University, and then became a Marine Corps helicopter pilot. He flew hundreds of rescue missions in Vietnam. Upon leaving the Marine Corps, he returned to North Dakota to finish his degree. Then he got into the retail tire business in Panama City, Fla. In 1981, Dick opened the first Sun Tire store in Orange Park, Fla. He went on to open eight more stores in Northeast Florida and two in Tallahassee. In 2018, he sold the business to a large national chain of tire stores. In his first book, How the Rubber Meets the Road: A Blue-Collar Roadmap to Success, one of the main topics was profit-sharing. Dick learned about profit-sharing from observing how it worked at Les Schwab Tire in Oregon. Dick incorporated much of what he saw in the Sun Tire plan, and he attributes much of his success to profit-sharing.
