Get comfortable with Latin in bite-sized pieces. These simple English to Latin exercises for beginners use short, everyday types of communications with so much repetition and small variation that students will have to either make solid progress or see exactly where their difficulties lie. The sentences themselves will help to lay a foundation for language mastery of a level rarely achieved with most textbooks today. George J. Adler (1821–68) incorporated these exercises into his A Practical Grammar of the Latin Language; With Perpetual Exercises in Speaking and Writing for the Use of Schools, Colleges, and Private Learners (Boston: Sanborn, Carter, Bazin, & Co. 1858), but students did not have access to an answer-key with which to check their work. Adler's sentences and their key have both been heavily revised here to be more helpful for those who can profit from learning directly from extensive examples. Note that this is Volume 1 of a two-volume work. The second volume is planned to appear sometime before the end of 2024.
