The Reverend Eric Cummings, a minister serving a church in a small Midwest town, is looking for a way out of ministry. He is tired, frustrated, and feeling burned out. Being a minister is all he has known and has no idea what he would do if he were to leave the ministry. He is overwhelmed and worried as to how he will be able to support his wife and twin boys if he were to exit his calling. In the meantime, he must continue to lead his church. While on a sermon planning retreat, Eric has an encounter with God. This internal voice instructs Eric to preach five sermons. These are sermons Eric has always wanted to preach but never dared to do so. They would be controversial and most likely lead to nothing but trouble. This idea terrified him and excited him at the same time. God assures him these sermons were put on his heart by no coincidence and now is the time to share them. Is he hearing the voice of God?
