Lot Smith was an early Latter-day Saint pioneer who built himself a reputation for being bold and courageous. He volunteered for the Mormon Battalion at just 16 years old and struck gold in California. Lot helped rescue the stranded Martin and Willie Handcart Companies, and was instrumental in delaying Johnston's Army from reaching the Salt Lake Valley by leading guerrilla raids. He eventually settled in Northern Arizona where he was a leader and protector of his people.
