The story of the Model "B" tractor.... Introduced in 1934, the model "B" tractor holds the record for the highest production quantity of any John Deere model at over 300,000 built! The last Model "B" tractors were built in 1952. Over this period of production, many variations and improvements were made to the Model "B" tractor, including the "Dreyfuss styling" introduced for the 1939 model year, and a lengthened hood and pressed steal frame in 1947. The Model "B" was offered with a gas or all-fuel engine. Although most were configured in a narrow front row-crop wheel setup, several wheel and axle options existed which varied from a single front wheel, to wide and high clearance options for the rear axle. The story of the Van Brunt drill... In 1860, the brothers George W. and Daniel C. Van Brunt, produced the world's first mechanical seeder. The implement allowed for the seed to be buried under the soil to keep birds from taking the seed away. In 1861, the brothers opened their manufacturing facility in Horicon, Wisconsin. The modern-day John Deere Horicon Works sits on the same site today. The basis of the Van Brunt fluted force-fed cup, patented in 1869, has been a mainstay in grain drill seed metering, and closely resembles current technology in grain drill seed metering.
