Guardian Zoe Hartmann is called home for the first time in over a decade. Her father is dying, but it isn’t the flu, as she’d been led to believe. It’s a rare form of poisoning she recognizes only because of her work with the infamous wizard Corbin Tash. When she brings the wizard in to help, they learn that a top-secret weapon may be killing its designers. Determined to destroy the machine, they go to the workshop, only to discover its key component is missing. With the dubious help of her brother and an unwelcome figure from Zoe’s past, Zoe and Corbin must uncover who could’ve stolen the weapon when no one was supposed to know existed—and they have to hurry. Every minute, the missing component is growing more dangerous, and the suspicions surrounding Zoe's family are growing thicker.
