JOE ROOP was born in the coal-mining town of Martwick, Kentucky, but he didn't want to be a miner. He wanted to play basketball. Combining his natural height and athletic ability with dedication and hard work, Joe played his way to a college degree and local legend status. His story proves that when you make the most of your natural gifts, there is no limit to what you can do. Anne Cairns Federlein, Ph.D., spent a lifetime in the classroom, teaching young children and graduate level courses over the years. Along with being the first Director of the Iowa Regents Center for Early Developmental Education at the University of Northern Iowa, she served as President at Kentucky Wesleyan College, the same school where Joe Roop played basketball and later became the Dean of Students.
