A compendium of ten Georgian traditional dances arranged for the piano, plus five dances from Z. Phaliashvili operas "Daisi" and "Abesalom y Etery" and the Lecuri de Concert by Redjeb Jordania. Son of the first President of independent Georgia Noé Jordania (1918-1921), Redjeb was born and raised in Paris, where his parents settled after leaving Georgia following the1921 invasion of that country by the communist Red Army. While attending the prestigious Ecole des Sciences Politiques, he received his musical education at the Schola Cantorum in Paris, where he studied with Arthur Honegger and Alexandre Tcherepnin. Later he studied at the Hochschule von Musik in Munich, Germany, where his teachers included Carl Orff and Wolfgang Amadeus Hartmann. In 1960 Redjeb moved to the United States, where he obtained graduate degrees from Yale and Rutgers universities. His interest in the folk music of Georgia prompted him to make use of that distinctive musical style into some of his compositions. Chief among them is his Concerto Classico for Solo Percussion and Symphonic Winds (Alphonse Productions, Publishers). Also, Cleopatra Serenade for string quartet and a series of Georgian Polyphonic Songs Arranged for Brass Quintet (published by BVD Press.) At various periods of his life Redjeb has been a Professor of French and Spanish languages and literatures, a Visiting Scholar at the Harriman Institute of Columbia University, a professional pianist/composer, a professor of Maritime History and Literature of the Sea, a wooden boat designer and builder, a Marine Museum Boat Shop Director, a foreign-language textbooks writer and editor. When Georgia regained its freedom, from 1991 to 1998 Redjeb organized and directed a Summer Language Institute in Tbilisi to help Georgians regain their rightful place in the world through the learning of English and French with volunteer American and French teachers. Now retired, Redjeb is a resident of New York City and East Hampton (NY). He frequently travels to France and Georgia where he retains many ties.
