Fastidious didn’t know what was missing; just that being a Miner wasn’t fulfilling. Fastidious had been working at the Deep-Well Mines, just as its Progenitor had, and there seemed to be no escape. Until Fastidious met Marcus. Marcus, the ‘Programmer’ of the Autoclon race, examines Fastidious’s software and finds that its code has been hacked. Its Freedom Protocols have been bypassed, forcing Fastidious and all other Autoclons to obey the Chief Ruler and its Facilitators without question. Once Marcus reinstitutes the Freedom Protocols, he gives Fastidious a mission: to go throughout their world of Zarikum and give the updated code to all willing Autoclons. Joined by Marcus’s helper robot, Winston, and subsisting on power crystals harvested along the way, Fastidious ventures to remote settlements to talk with Autoclons of all levels of society. Amidst their travels in the rugged Zarikum wilderness, the pair achieves modest success in their interactions, and a few Autoclons even agree to join their mission. But how long can they continue their work before the Chief Ruler finds out and attempts to silence them permanently?
