Frankenstein isn't just a book— it's an experience that will leave you questioning the very fabric of life itself. Mary Shelley was an English novelist, short story writer, and essayist best known for her groundbreaking novel Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus. The daughter of political philosopher William Godwin and feminist writer Mary Wollstonecraft, Shelley grew up in a highly intellectual environment, which greatly influenced her writing. Frankenstein, first published anonymously when Shelley was just 20 years old, is often considered one of the earliest examples of science fiction and remains a pivotal work in discussions of ethics, creativity, and the responsibilities of scientific advancement. Shelley continued to write throughout her life, producing several novels, short stories, and essays that explored themes of identity, politics, and the human condition. Amanda C. Barton has spent her whole life telling stories. Her earliest memories include library trips and swapping books with her best friend. She believes stories are meant to be shared, not read in private or written in isolation. She studied Literature, Linguistics, and Writing at Washington University in St. Louis, and holds a PhD in English Literature, specializing in Medieval and Early Modern Literature with a minor in Women's and Gender Studies, from Saint Louis University. Today, she is an award-winning educator, researcher, and writer. In addition to writing and literature classes, she has taught classes on Gender and Pop Culture, Women in Film, and Pain and Its Representations. Someday, she'd love to teach a class on Gender and Video Games. Originally from Northwestern PA, she now makes her home in St. Louis, MO, with her husband, two children, and four cats.
