Jewish Gratitude Journal - Thanking Hashem It’s no secret that gratitude journaling is quickly becoming one of the most widely accepted and used methods of maintaining a positive mental health state, and keeping an open outlook on life. This Jewish gratitude was designed to encourage and spiritual gratitude, and build a daily habit of thanking Hashem 100 times each day. Every day, we overlook and take for granted things that we should be grateful for (Our good health, our ability to taste, the TV show we enjoyed etc.) This journal hopes to encourage us to give thanks for the little (as well as the big) things in our lives. Thanking Hasem for 100 things may seem overwhelming. This journal was designed to build thanks over a 7 week period. Starting in the first week, you are asked to thank Hashem for 5 things each day, with this number building up each week until week 7, in which you are asked to give thanks 100x each day for the week. Week 1: 5 - Week 2: 10 - Week 3: 20 - Week 4 30 - Week 5 40 - Week 6 80 - Week 7 100 The Torah tells us of how Leah gave birth to a number of sons, and when the 4th son was born, she said, “This time, I will give thanks to Adonai,” (odeh et Adonai). The letters of odeh, “I will give thanks,” form the basis of the name that Leah chose for son: Yehudah. From Yehudah, we get the name “Judah.” And from “Judah” we get the word “Judaism.” So ultimately, our greatest Jewish responsibility is to give thanks, because when we give thanks, we realize the holy potential of our world and bring more of it into others lives. And with that potential, when we look for 100 blessings every day, we can then create even more of those blessings, for ourselves and for our world.
