This is my third book covering the nuances and background of building your own personal computer. Previously, I discussed Intel’s Haswell and Skylake CPUs. This book covers Intel’s 12th generation Alder Lake CPU and the Z690 chipset. This book is much more than a detailed guide to assembling a PC. This book goes into detail concerning your case, CPU, motherboard, RAM, CPU cooler, power supply, video card, and much more. This book will save you money. You will be better equipped to evaluate components and make decisions that maximize the potential of your budget. I have been building PCs for twenty-five years. My computers last until they become antiques! Why? Because of the components, priorities, and techniques I employ. It’s all in this book. I have seen people pay for an “off the shelf” computer that failed just after the warrantee period expired. How can this be? Most consumers don’t have any idea how to evaluate components. In fact, one poor fellow I know has gone through three retail PCs while one of my PCs grew so old I had to scrape barnacles of its bottom! This book also covers security issues, adding and partitioning a drive, troubleshooting, resolving device conflicts, case ventilation, how to avoid building a “dust magnet” PC, how to understand and evaluate RAM, and a very detailed step by step guide to putting everything together.
