Watercolor Dreams and Haiku Whispers is a collaboration between two Austin, Texas, typewriter enthusiasts, Everett E. Henderson Jr. and David M. Torres. They have dedicated years to organizing type-ins, podcasts, and events to introduce people to the “new” technology of the typewriter. Everett enjoys researching, repairing, and writing about typewriters. He believes that the hand and mind connect through the typewriter and through painting and creating art. His watercolors are inspired by Texas's diverse environments, from the stark desert landscape to the lively Austin Violet Crown Trail. His collection of over 300 typewriters primarily includes models from before the 1930s, many dating back to the 1880s. His favorite typewriter to collect is the Royal “P" Portable. David’s collection includes over 400 typewriters, which he uses to correspond with friends around the world and to write haiku. He sponsors type-ins at libraries in Austin, Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio. He has also been known to donate typewriters to young aspiring writers because, to be a “real writer,” you must absolutely have a typewriter. Additionally, David hosts the Austin Typewriter, Ink. Podcast, where he interviews typospherians from around the world. Austin Typewriter, Ink. Press aims to inspire and encourage the use of typewriters for creative pursuits. As founders of Austin Typewriter, Ink., they are part of the vibrant community that celebrates the magic of typewriters.
