Loved it! 😍 This guidebook could create a wave of change for middle-aged men wondering, "Is this it?" - but first, we must convince them to read it SYNOPSIS Many men in life's second half want to live a better life, but they don't know how and there isn't anywhere easy for them to go to work it out. They find self help language off putting - not for me, not for men, hot air, too long. This book is the answer. Your Best Second Half is a practical actionable and enjoyable guide, written for men to live more of the life they want in the second half. In a few steps you will articulate how you want your second half to be and have a clear action plan to achieve it. No woo woo self help or impenetrable soul searching, just pen and paper, determination and courage. Actionable * Enjoyable * Effective I know I'm not the target demographic for this guidebook, but I think all women with men in their lives who are asking themselves, "Is this it?" need to read this and pass it on to those men. I've already recommended it to my brother and discussed it with my husband. Last year, I wrote a book about this same topic: I wrote about how living our lives according to the shoulds of others will have us living just okay lives where we lose our joy and passions. But the audience for my book was primarily women, and I wondered if a similar book could exist for men that would approach the topic in a tangible and analytical way - precisely the way a man needs to hear the reality of their situation. This guidebook does just that. I do feel that a few of the questions asked in the book, including the "conversation starters with other men" and journaling activities, may not appeal to most of the men reading this guidebook right off the bat. Let's be honest: most men have a lot of unlearning to do when it comes to taking care of their mental and emotional health, and that first step is missing, diving right into shadow work journaling. That isn't realistic. We must work our way up to that if we want men to heal effectively. But the guidebook was written in honest, bite-sized pieces that men, even those who don't enjoy reading, will have no excuse to avoid. I obviously didn't read through it and participate in the recommended activities as they weren't written for me, a woman, but I can see that this wouldn't be a guidebook that's difficult to tackle. And at the end of it, I could definitely imagine the positive results that it would bring. I especially appreciated that the book approached the topic of the reality that men cannot alter their external environment or the people in it, only themselves and their reactions to it. I think this is often forgotten, and this desire to control or change what they cannot leads to ultimate frustration and a sense of failure. The authors' honest reflections in the appendix help amplify the potential of the exercises in this book. It's a must-read for men wondering if there's more when it already feels too late.
